When do you not need to pay your membership fees?

Life is full of surprises and uncertainties, even at work. In some situations in life, you are entitled to an exemption from membership fees.

You are exempted, if your earnings are interrupted for an acceptable reason. Reasons for this might be studies, parental leave, military service or receiving sick pay from The Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) or unemployment benefit.

Always inform PAM

Remember to inform PAM when you have stopped working for an acceptable reason. This is how you maintain your membership in the union. For example, we do not receive information on your maternity or child care leave directly from your employer. It's important to be active yourself.

1) You can inform PAM on exemptions from paying your membership fees on electronic web service at "Update your information".
2) You can also contact the Membership advice service tel. 020 774 2000 or by e-mail jasenrekisteri(a)pam.fi.

If you are late on your membership fee payment or if you did not notify us of your acquittal, please contact PAM immediately and we will make arrangements together on how your membership fees and your membership will be brought up to date. In accordance with the regulations, a member will be expelled from the trade union and the unemployment fund if membership fees or informing of an exemption from payment have been neglected for more than 3 months.

Interruption of earned income

If your earned income is interrupted, please contact the trade union immediately. Your membership in the trade union and the unemployment fund will continue if your work is interrupted for an acceptable reason and you have made a proper notification of it to PAM. These reasons are, for example, family leaves, military service and the National Insurance Institution’s daily sickness or unemployment benefit.

Membership fee information to the tax authorities

Paid membership fees are tax deductible. The unions inform the tax authorities of the paid membership fees annually.

Changing address or name?

Name changes must always be notified to PAM.

Address changes do not necessarily need to be notified to PAM, only if you have an address disposition ban. PAM updates its members’ address information at the post office address service excluding the region of Ahvenanmaa.  Please inform us of changes in your name or address at phone 0203456456/in Finnish or 0203457457/in Swedish and on the Internet www.vaestorekisterikeskus.fi or http://www.posti.fi/

Changing your work place or occupation?

When you change your employer, work place or occupation, please notify the trade union. If you have agreed with your employer to collect the union membership fees directly from your wages, you must remember to make a new agreement with your employer if you move over to another union. Ask your shop steward at your work place if you are not sure if your employer collects the membership fee from your wage.

To keep your work place and occupational information up to date you help PAM to serve its members. With the updated data you will receive targeted mail concerning your working field only.

Maybe you start with entrepreneurship?

If you start an entrepreneurship activity, please notify PAM immediately and your membership will be up to date. An entrepreneur may be a member of the trade union and the unemployment fund with a post-protection for 18 months max. If the entrepreneurship activity continues after the post-protection period, the membership of the union and the unemployment fund will end. The recommendation is, that the entrepreneurs would join the Unemployment Benefit Fund for Entrepreneurs (the AYT Fund).

Working abroad?

Persons working abroad should to join the trade union and the unemployment fund of the new country. Before moving abroad, please contact the trade union or the unemployment fund.
