Occupational safety representative
Occupational safety representatives represent employees in matters related to health and safety at work.
The employees elect an occupational safety representative among them. Legislation obliges the employer and the employees to maintain and improve safety at work in co-operation with each other. An occupational safety representative has to be elected at every workplace with at least 10 employees.It can also be elected at smaller workplaces. In addition to the occupational safety representative, larger companies can also have occupational safety delegates that assist the representative in health and safety related matters.
The occupational safety representative is responsible for matters related to safety and health at work, including working conditions. It is also the responsibility of the representative to see that no discrimination, inequality or racism takes place at the work place.
If you do not yet have an occupational safety representative at work who is a member of PAM, it's best to contact PAM and take care of the matter immediately.
Every PAM member has the right to participate in the election of a shop steward or an occupational safety representative and to be elected to the position. The election is based on agreements between the trade union and the employer. The election of occupational health representatives, on the other hand, is based on Finnish legislation.

An occupational safety representative is elected by the employees at the workplace who are members of PAM.All PAM members can stand as candidates, provided that they work in the sector of the shop steward and they are covered by the collective agreement in question.
