PAM’s second congress will be held in Helsinki next June. The most important stage prior to that is the congress elections, with the nomination process and training sessions now underway.

Pre-registration to stand as a candidate in the union congress elections opened at the start of October and will continue till the end of the year. PAM’s training manager Airi Palosaari says that everyone registering as a candidate will be offered the chance to get training.

Pre-registration to stand as a candidate in the union congress elections opened at the start of October and will continue till the end of the year. PAM’s training manager Airi Palosaari says that everyone registering as a candidate will be offered the chance to get training.

“The congress elections will be featured throughout the autumn at all the union’s events. Our aim is to increase understanding of the importance of the congress for PAM’s future and that way to get all members interested in being a candidate and voting”, Palosaari summarises.

Candidate workshops will be held over the autumn throughout Finland, the objective being to explain to candidates why the congress elections are being held and what matters are decided at the congress.

The workshops will also provide training on election campaigning and look at the ways in which you can attract more votes in the congress elections. Training will also be held online via Skype for those who are unable to take part in the regional workshops.

If the training successful it will encourage large numbers of members to stand as candidates. Airi Palosaari says he is looking forward to seeing what sort of campaigns candidates will have at workplaces and regionally. He sends a message of encouragement to all those considering being a candidate.

“Often it is enough to encourage PAM members at your own workplace to vote in the congress elections. Being a candidate doesn’t require any fancy tricks. Showing an interest in your workplace and the union and talking about them with colleagues will take you a long way. The candidate training will help to prepare you for these encounters.”
