Service Union United PAM and a recruiting platform Duunitori have launched a market information service for service sector jobs aiming to provide up-to-date information on the development of the service sector job situation, especially now during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The economic and labour market shock caused by Covid-19 has hit the service sectors hard. There are widespread lay-offs and the tourism and restaurant sector is almost completely closed. As an example, 91 chefs were laid off in April 2019. In April 2020, the number was 8,000.
“These are truly exceptional times. With this service, we want to be open and provide information about the number of job vacancies in different groups and industries and the change in these during this time”, says PAM's research manager Antti Veirto.

In the future, the goal is to determine not only the number and development of jobs, but also the share of part-time work in all job vacancies.
In April 2020, the Unemployment Fund of Service Union United PAM received altogether 18,403 new applications for unemployment benefits. That is more than during the whole last year. There is clearly a demand for this service and the information it provides.
The job situation in the service industries in one place
The information service allows the user to monitor changes in the labour market from the perspective of the industry, occupational group and work situation. The situation and development of vacancies can be monitored by task area and in different commuting areas.
In the information service, it is easy to compare the development of the labor market in service sectors on an annual or even local level.
The demand for jobs in the service is based on the browsing data of all job ads collected by Duunitori on its website. The supply of jobs is based on the number of new open ads. These are visualized in an easy-to-understand format.
