The distress of workers requires urgent action

The government has announced dramatic restrictions on restaurants. Annika Rönni-Sällinen, President of the Service Union United PAM, demands equally dramatic measures to support employees in the sector.

“The complete closure of restaurants is putting workers in the sector in an extremely challenging situation. Now we need support measures targeted at them”, demands Annika Rönni-Sällinen, President of PAM.

The majority of restaurant workers have faced layoffs and unemployment over the past year. Income difficulties have increased. Rönni-Sällinen is concerned about the well-being of employees who are in constant uncertainty in the industry.

“The limit for these workers has been exceeded. They have already had to cut down on food and medicine. The government's next task is to outline how to take into account the continuing decline in the livelihoods of workers affected by corona measures. It's a matter of urgency, because disaster is around the corner."

Recourse to extreme measures such as restaurant closures requires full justification. Only this way, can those understand, whose lives are most affected by decisions that are so important.

“Those laid off from restaurants and becoming unemployed must be able to live their daily lives. The money must be enough to live despite the pandemic. That is what political decision-makers now have to attend to, ”says Rönni-Sällinen.
