Learn Finnish

 

In the Learn Finnish course you learn to use Finnish as an everyday working language. You learn about the practices and rules of Finnish working life. In the course you learn to speak, read and write Finnish. At the end of the course you get a certificate.

Courses are held in autumn and spring. A course application must be made before the course begins. 

Learn Finnish courses are free for PAM members. 

The application period for courses in spring 2021 is 9.12.2020–10.1.2021. 

Choose the level that corresponds to your language ability and apply via the event calendar If you are selected for the course, you will be notified by 18.1.2021 at the latest.

Three groups will start in spring - two in Helsinki and one online. The groups are formed based on an initial assessment and 10-15 students will be placed in each group.  The course lasts 15 weeks and the lessons (1.5 hours) are at the same time every week. The first session is a compulsory level test and the last session is the closing event. 

Beginners’ course, Helsinki

Apply for this group if you haven’t studied Finnish before. Course starts from level 0.

Intermediate level course, Helsinki

Apply for this group if you have studied the basics of Finnish before (for example completed the book Suomen mestari 1).  You can say basic things about yourself, such as what you do in an ordinary day and what your home is like. Course starts from level A1.3/A2.1.

Advanced group (distance learning)

Apply for this group if you are already able to discuss a range of topics in Finnish and read texts in Finnish. 
The starting level is at least A2.2, but the group is also suitable for level B1 (Yki 3->).

How do I apply?

Register for training directly via the event calendar.

Registration:
1) Search for the course in the event calendar with the search term “Opi suomeaLearn Finnish”
2) Press 'Register'
3) Log in with your online banking codes or mobile ID and complete the registration.

Choose the level that corresponds to your language ability. If you are selected for the course, you will be notified by 18 January 2021 at the latest.

After registration you will get an e-mail to confirm that PAM has received your registration. If you don’t get a message, check your junk mail and if necessary register again.  If you are selected for the course, you will be notified by e-mail by 18 January 2021 at the latest.
