Many employees were late for their shifts because they followed the instructions in the emergency warning. An emergency warning was issued in Uusimaa in the early hours of today, Friday 15 May, instructing people to stay indoors. The emergency warning was lifted in the morning after 7 am. Together with employer associations, PAM is investigating the pay obligation in situations where an employee has been late for a shift or has been completely prevented from getting to work because they followed the instructions in the emergency warning. In private service sectors, work is carried out around the clock, so many employees living in Uusimaa were prevented from leaving for their shifts because of the emergency warning. Being late for a shift in this situation does not constitute unauthorised absence. PAM will provide its members with more detailed information on the matter next week. Photo: Shutterstock.
