The Finnish course for the hotel and restaurant industry is aimed at people with an immigrant background who want to study Finnish. The course teaches you how to use Finnish in worklife focusing especially on the language of your own professional field. In this case hotel and restaurant industry. If there are not enough registered participants, representatives from other fields can also be admitted to the course.

You will also learn about the customs and rules of Finnish working life. The course emphasizes speaking, listening and reading comprehension.

The starting level for the Finnish language course for professional fields is at least A2.1.

Introduce yourself to the rules of the game in working life and the collective agreement in the field

Particular emphasis is placed on oral communication, listening and reading comprehension

Imperfect tense and imperative forms

Passing the course requires active participation in teaching and homework. The course uses the Howspace digital learning environment and other teacher materials. Before the course, a small preliminary assignment will be organized in the Howspace digital learning environment. You can choose a time that suits you:

Monday, October 6th, 9–10 a.m.

Tuesday, October 7th, 9–10 a.m.

Priority to study in this course is given to people who work in the relevant field for the Finnish course ( hotel and restaurant industry) Before registering, please check that your membership information (contact information, workplace information and membership fees) is up to date in PAM’s electronic eService member service.

Those who pass the course will receive a certificate. The course will be organized as a face-to-face lesson at the Helsinki Ympyrätalo Hakaniemi.

The alternate days for teaching are (for example, in case of illness of the teacher):

Monday, November 24th, 9:00–11:30 a.m.

Tuesday, November 25th, 9:00–11:30 a.m.

If you are selected for the course, you will be notified by e-mail by one week before course starts latest.


The course is suitable for you if you have previously studied for example, Suomen mestari 1 and 2 textbook.
